circuit board washing bays graph

Here are two success stories from Caltmore:

At Environmental Sampling Supply (ESS) we implemented a bottle washing line to clean glassware to stringent EPA requirements. The 50 foot washing line consists of 5 bays. Each bay provides a different wash: regular water, deionized water, nitric acid, deionized water and finally plain water again. A tray of bottles moves automatically through all 5 bays to complete a washing cycle.

Each bay contains plumbing, custom designed stainless steel washing arms, sensors to detect the presence of trays, a drive line to move trays and off the shelf microcontrollers to synchronize operations and communicate with a host computer. The production line is operated from a PC in another room via an application developed by Caltmore. The application also provides production reports by automatically tracking jobs.

Caltmore designed and fabricated the bay machinery, integrated electronics from third parties and wrote software, both embedded and application, for this project. This mission critical production line has been in daily operation for 10 years. Caltmore remains a reliable partner, providing equipment maintenance and support for ESS operations.

Our engagement with Tempsys is a software only effort. Caltmore engineers integrated wireless temperature sensors with a standard PC. A Windows service was developed to collect temperature data. This ensures data is collected as long as the computer is turned on. The service also contains a set of monitoring algorithms each for a different type of supported equipment (e.g. dishwashers in commerical kitchens or incubators in drug laboratories). If monitored equipment goes out of compliance, the service generates alarms automatically.

The service stores temperature data and alerts into a multi-user database engine. The database also provides persistance for a front end application. The application and database provide history reports of monitored equipment including temperature (displayed as tables or charts), alerts, corrective actions and configuration changes. The client application also provides user authentication, equipment setup, scheduled events (such as periodic maintenance) and alert escalation.

Caltmore has also developed a web interface as an alternative to the rich client, a background alert monitor and an SMTP service to transmit alerts. We deploy the applications via download from a web site. Much of our four years working with Tempsys has been spent adding features and providing field support.
